The Applegate AMA is a 324,680-acre area within the 500,000-acre
Applegate watershed in southwestern Oregon and northern California. About
30 percent of the Applegate watershed is in private ownership. The AMA also includes lands managed by the Rogue River National Forest, the Siskiyou
National Forest, and the Medford District of the BLM. Associated
communities include Wilderville, Murphy, Provolt,
Williams, Applegate, Ruch, Grants Pass, Jacksonville, and Medford,
Oregon.
Best known for its association with the Applegate Partnership, the Applegate emphasizes developing and
testing a variety of practices for sustainable forests and
communities. This area is formally part of the international model
forest network.
The AMA is managed by the Rogue River National Forest,
Medford District Bureau of Land Management, and Siskiyou National Forest.
