You should take
this class if you work on permanent teams, single purpose teams, task forces, or
other situations where a group of people have come together to accomplish something. The
information will include both traditional teams with a designated leader and self directed
teams. Come as an individual and take this information back home or attend this session
with your entire team.
Ever wish your work teams were more effective? Become familiar with the characteristics of high performing teams. Recognize the stages of team development and four leadership styles that can affect team behavior. Learn the individual team member roles and responsibilities for effective team functioning. Understand the role of conflict in team dynamics and how to manage group problems. Learn key skills for evaluating the team's process. Apply and practice the concepts presented during the week in a team setting. This is an active session with a high level of participant involvement. Small group activities, large group discussions, simulations, videos, and short facilitator presentations are teaching methods which will be utilized. You will gain the most if you come with an open mind and a willingness to participate. --
Knowing our team members allows us to more fully utilize each person's strengths. Learn
about considering both the level of risk and the level of activity. We will also explore
some common characteristics of successful teams and observe an example of a team.
-- How a team is doing is as important as what a team is doing if it is to develop or maintain a high level of accomplishment The four stages of team development, team member roles needed, and leadership styles will be emphasized. -- Unclear goals are the number one reason teams fail. Lean about effective goals and the impact of goals of team performance.
-- Effective communication is the core skill underlying all successful teams. Our focus is understanding different types of listening and improving skills. -- Taking time to focus is often overlooked as a tool to keep a team successful. Learn some of the key considerations in giving and receiving useful feedback. -- All teams and all individuals need recognition. Barriers to recognition and different methods of recognizing teams will be covered. |
