| This is an
optional session for those who prefer a unique activity during the
afternoon break on Wednesday. Participate in solving group initiatives in
a fun, non-competitive atmosphere.

the midst of requests for presentations, field trips, or classroom lectures.
Participants will be involved in an active, hand-on approach for developing their own presentations. -- Recognize your agency's role in environmental education. |
This workshop is for people who find themselves in the
midst of meetings where emotions are hot and the stakes are high.
Participants will learn tips and techniques from veteran facilitators for handling the really tough facilitation challenges. This course builds on some of the basic information presented in other courses and gives you what you need to really survive the tough situations. Be prepared to challenge yourself! |
| Understanding Conflict |
|
Effective Briefings |
| This course is for those who want to
expand their awareness themselves and others in relation to conflict, and
assess how environmental issues can be affected by people's styles of
handling conflict.
This is a brief introductory level session which uses the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Inventory. Participants will receive their pre-work when they check in at Cispus. This session focuses on conflict involving natural resource issues, not interpersonal conflict. This session will introduce participants to different modes for handling conflict, and explain how to identify those different modes. We will explore the differences between compromise and collaboration; and learn to apply the modes for analyzing environmental conflicts |
"This
was the most difficult and challenging, yet most fun, workshop I have ever
attended. Well worth the time spent." Cispus Workshop 2002
|
This is a highly valuable session for anyone who
wants to learn a straightforward process to prepare and present clear, concise briefings.
It is estimated that ineffective briefings waste up to one-third of the time we spend in
meetings. This fast paced session will take participants through a seven step
planning process.
Participants should come to class with a topic in mind from work, community, or home. Briefings are made for many reasons: to inform, persuade, make a decision, reach agreement, analyze implications, or initiate action. Choose a topic that will lend itself to one of these objectives. Briefings may be formal or informal, and most of us are expected to present briefings in the course of our work. If you want to deliver your subject matter in a logical and condensed form and improve your presentation skills, this session is for you. In one
short morning, participants will develop an effective briefing and make a practice
presentation in a small group setting. And for the shy - don't worry,
there won't be any video cameras in the room! This is a great opportunity to gain skills
that can make us more effective in our everyday life. |
