We've hosted folks with
guide dogs... Participants with guide dogs have joined and fully participate in the workshop in the past. The park-like atmosphere is very "dog-friendly". Our experience has been that the dog often gets lots of attention from other participants. If this is a problem, be sure to let us know.
Campus: Fairly flat, paved roadways and walkways connect all buildings. There are many street lights and motion sensing lights sprinkled around the campus. Hiking Trails: Most hiking trails are not wheelchair accessible. Hiking trails may be slippery, muddy, or snowy in March and should be attempted by anyone with care.
Meeting Rooms: All of the buildings used for sessions on the Cispus campus have wheelchair ramps or are wheelchair accessible. The Sasquatch, which is used for some of the optional evening social activities, does not have a ramp. We also have a sound and speaker system which is used in the larger rooms. Cafeteria: Wheelchairs are easily accommodated - no holding back in these chow lines! Courses: We use a variety of media in our courses which include paper handouts, paper posters, projectors, video players, compact disk and tape players, etc. Some times the weather can affect what tools we use... occasionally we lose electricity temporarily - back up generators are available. |
A few observations on wheelchair accessibility...
Dorms:
One of the bunk houses has been equipped with ramps as well as
accessible showers and sinks. There are typically enough dorms so that no
one has to sleep on the top bunk! In fact, stealing the mattress from the
top bunk for your own bed is a good idea!
