The Cispus
Workshop is held at the Cispus Learning Center, 11 miles
south of Randle, Washington in the western Cascade Mountains. The facility is a former
Job Corps Center, built in 1965 by the USDA Forest Service on the site of a Civilian Conservation Corps Camp. It currently is operated under
a special use permit to the Association of Washington School Principals. The Cispus
Learning Center is used nearly year round by schools, agencies, church groups, and other
organizations. |
The area around Cispus offers beautiful scenery with tree-clad hills and rocky
outcrops. Most of the area is in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and the snow capped peaks of Goat Creek Wilderness Area are close by. Tower Rock, a prominent geological feature, looms
some 2,000 feet above the 65 acre Cispus Learning Center which is situated on the broad Cispus River floodplain approximately 1,300
feet above sea level. The summit of nearby Burley Mountain is just over 5,300 feet and the view from the crest is absolutely spectacular. On clear days you can see Mt. St. Helen's, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Hood. There are occasional sightings of grouse, deer, elk, hawks, and other wildlife. |
Accessibility
information
The 100-acre campus, in a beautiful natural setting, provides a calm change of pace from the day-to-day work environment. Facilities are basic: sleeping accommodations are heated dormitories furnished with beds, toilets, sinks and showers, and meals are served family style in a dining hall. There is sufficient sleeping space for each person to have a lower bunk. If you have questions regarding site accessibility or need particular accommodations, call (360) 497-7131 or one of the staff contacts, at least four weeks prior to the start of the workshop. |
Telephone, Mail, and Messages
Cispus Learning Center The Cispus Learning Center has limited incoming and outgoing telephone facilities. We are, in essence, in a "cellular free zone" because of nearby mountains. You may want to advise your office staff to only forward urgent calls. Use the address and telephone number on the left to receive mail and messages while at The Cispus Workshop. |
