The Research Agency Executives involved with the Northwest Forest Plan present an independent science perspective. Leaders from the following agencies comprise the Research Agency Executives Group:
  US Department of Agriculture:
   Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Research Station

   Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Research Station

US Department of the Interior:  
   Geological Survey - Western Regional Office

US Department of Commerce:
   NOAA - National Marine Fisheries Science Center

Environmental Protection Agency:
   Western Ecology Division

Goals The group facilitates intergovernmental activities to accomplish the following goals:
  • Scientific research on fundamental questions underlying basic assumptions of the Northwest Forest Plan
  • Development of research and monitoring plans
  • Communication of scientific findings, technical transfer, and opportunities to facilitate adaptive management
  • Independent scientific review, evaluation, and analysis. 

The group is responsible for science findings, interpretations, and positions.  One of the key functions of the group is to interface between science and management.
