Hydrography Integration Update

                                                                                                                                    June 3, 2002

For the weeks of May 20 and 28 the BLM, FS and REO hosted a series of workshops with agency hydrologists in order to establish a single set of hydrography for 49 high priority Sub-basins.  These 4th Level HUC’s covered portions of Oregon and Washington.  With the very high level of support from the hydrologists (staying until 10 at night!) we were able to meet our goal in agreeing on which agency hydrography to use.

The REO has compiled the results of the workshops and developed a jpg file for you to view.   Click here to view the results.

Our next step in this process is to task a contractor to combine the different agency’s hydrography data, according to the guidelines from the workshops, into a single dataset.  For this first phase the contractor will not edgematch or route.  This first step is simply to integrate hydrography and verify against the workshop guidelines.  We expect to start this contract the week of June 10, and finish in early July.  The following task order will focus on creating a seamless dataset and routing this so that agency data can be reattached.

Our final goal is to submit this to the USGS national database, as well as load this into the NW Framework Hydrography Clearinghouse (hydro.reo.gov).  Since these workshops were so successful we plan on hosting another set of workshops this fall to finish the sub-basins for Oregon and Washington.
