ISSUE SUMMARY
Topic: STATUS OF IAC RECHARTERING |
REO Contact: Anne Badgley, REO Executive Director |
Summary of Discussion: Anne provided an update on the status of the approval process for the IAC 2005-2007 Charter and Nominations paperwork. The charter and nominations continue to work their way through the signature process in Washington. Half of the signatures have been obtained and our contact indicates that the process should be completed prior to our April 21, 2005 meeting. |
Next Steps (who/what/when): REO will continue to track the progress and let the committee know if we hit any snags. |
Topic: CONFERENCE AGENDA OVERVIEW |
REO Contact: Anne Badgley, REO Executive Director |
Summary of Discussion: Anne provided a brief overview of how important the upcoming conference was and the desire to continue the discussion among the IAC members on the findings. Having the IAC meeting directly after the conference provides the committee with an opportunity to hear all of the information first, to let them take a fresh look and bring their comments to the meeting on April 21. The agencies have no predetermined outcomes for this conference or meeting, but do want to reflect back on how the plan has worked and gather comments and ideas that might help them better manage in the future. |
Next Steps (who/what/when): Please be our guests at the Science Conference and bring your comments and ideas to the April 21 IAC meeting. |
Topic: MONITORING REPORTS |
REO Contact: Becky Gravenmier (PNW Rep) |
Issue Statement: Jon Martin provided an overview of the Monitoring Reports progress. |
Summary of Discussion: On April 21 we will celebrate the efforts and accomplishments over the two years of a wide variety of specialists, scientists, and managers. Over 60 scientists and senior management staff have been involved in this process and over 100 staff have been working with the authors to get these publications done. Compiling the 10-year report was a requirement of the Record of Decision. It was a major effort that has never been accomplished before. Many of the long-standing IAC members have an appreciation of the involvement and work put into the process. Jon indicated that most of the reports will be posted on the monitoring website (www.reo.gov/monitoring) around April 8. Some will still be in draft form and undergoing external review. Most of the reports should be completed by that time. |
Next Steps (who/what/when): Attend the Science Conference if you can and come prepared to talk about it at the April 21 meeting. |
Topic: TRIBAL FORUM |
REO Contact: Kath Collier, REO Management Analyst |
Issue Statement: The upcoming Tribal Forum is in preparation for a presentation planned for the April NWFP Science Conference. |
Summary of Discussion: George Smith provided a brief update on the Tribal Forum which is scheduled for 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on April 6, 2005, at the Portland Airport Sheraton Hotel. The agenda has been sent out to the Tribal leaders. The goal of the forum is to collect input from Tribal leaders regarding Northwest Forest Plan implementation, and impacts to both Federal and Tribal lands. The results will be incorporated into the Science Conference results/discussion, and potentially as IAC recommendations. |
Follow-up: Additional information can be found at: www.reo.gov/monitoring/tribal. |
Topic: PROPOSED APRIL 21 AGENDA |
REO Contact: Anne Badgley, REO Executive Director |
Issue Statement: Anne discussed draft plans for the April 21 IAC meeting. She asked Becky Loomis to fill members in on some of the travel changes and helpful tips. A detailed travel memo should be distributed by April 1. Anne also discussed the basic draft agenda and goals. The final agenda and prework for this meeting should be distributed by April 11. |
