Enclosed please find a proposed agenda and pre-work for the July 21, 2004 Regional Interagency Executive Committee (RIEC) breakfast meeting which will be held in the Florence Events Center, in Florence, Oregon. The breakfast meeting will be held in conference rooms 4 and 5 at 7:00 a.m. and followed by the Intergovernmental Advisory Committee meeting at 8:00 a.m. Cost for the catered breakfast, including gratuity, will be $10.00 (please bring exact change).

AGENDA TOPIC OVERVIEWS

Topic: UPDATE ON BLM RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PLAN REVISIONS

Issue Statement: The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Oregon is beginning a process to revise resource management plans (RMPs) within the Northwest Forest Plan (NWFP) area.

Background: The BLM is beginning a process to revise RMPs for the six districts in western Oregon covered by the NWFP. Plan revisions for the Coos Bay, Eugene, Medford, Roseburg, Salem, and Klamath Resource Area of the Lakeview District are scheduled concurrently. A brief overview of the following topics will be presented:

  • Status of the eighth year RMP evaluations
  • Draft RMP revision schedule
  • Opportunities to be a cooperator during the RMP revision process
  • Potential models for use in development of RMP landscape objectives

Additional, detailed information regarding the RMP revision process is scheduled for presentation to the RIEC later this year.

Topic: USE OF NEW INFORMATION IN A BIOLOGICAL OPINION

Issue Statement: New and updated biological and management information is being compiled for the Fish and Wildlife Service’s Northern Spotted Owl and Marbled Murrelet 5-year status reviews. This information will be used to ensure that the designations under the Endangered Species Act are accurate.
