Briefing Materials - RIEC Meeting December 1
RIEC Members:
We are looking forward to your participation at the meeting on December
1. Thank you for taking the time to meet in person or by phone with Deb
Nudelman from RESOLVE prior to this meeting. Unfortunately, we learned
yesterday that Deb will not be able to join us for the meeting. Her
mother, who was living with Deb and her family in Portland, passed away on
Monday. Deb is making arrangements with her family for services in
California next week. I talked with her today and offered our
condolences. She is very sorry to be missing the meeting because she has
enjoyed working on this project. She has prepared a power-point summary
of the interviews that will be presented at the meeting. Paul De Morgan,
a Senior Mediator with RESOLVE, has offered to step in for Deb and
facilitate the meeting. Some of you may already know Paul. Attached is
his resume if you would like to learn more about his background. I have
talked with him by phone. I am sure that he will do an excellent job.
Deb will re-engage on this project as necessary when she returns to
Portland.
Following is some information that you will want to read prior to the
meeting:
Agenda: The Agenda is attached below. Note the start time of 9:00 am; end
time is 3:00 pm. The morning will be focused on the future of the RIEC,
IAC and the PACs. The goal is to make some decisions. In the afternoon
you will be discussing your ideas for a different type of interagency
forum and next steps should you decide to pursue this concept. We are
pleased that Tony Vecchio, the Director of the Oregon Zoo, has agreed to
join us for a few minutes before the meeting and offer a welcome to the
group.
Background information: In addition to the documents that we sent to you
before your interviews, we thought that it might be helpful to provide you
with links to other key documents for reference. They can be reached
through the following links:
- Interagency NWFP MOU signed in 2003 (
http://www.reo.gov/library/policy/2003MOU4NWFP.htm)
- IAC Charter signed in 2005 (http://www.reo.gov/iac/IAC_Charter.htm)
- PAC Charter signed in 2005
(http://www.reo.gov/library/agreements/PAC2005charter.htm
Several of you also asked for an excerpted copy of the Northwest Forest
Plan ROD/Standards and Guidelines with the references to RIEC and REO
responsibilities highlighted. Those documents are attached below.
Meeting Logistics: The meeting will be held at the Oregon Zoo. The Zoo
is located just west of downtown Portland. The Zoo is on the MAX Portland
Tri-Met light rail line. Take the train west past downtown to the
"Washington Park Station", which is 200 feet from the Zoo entrance. (It
should take you about 15 minutes to travel from downtown by MAX.) By car
take Highway 26 and exit at "The Zoo". Park in the regular Zoo lot
(parking is free for this event.) Go the the main entrance, walk past
the ticket booths and enter the "Cascade Crest Banquet Center" to your
right. The meeting will be held in the "Skyline Room" which is on the
bottom floor. Snacks and lunch will be furnished at a cost of $20.00
per person. (Please bring exact change.)
As always, please contact your REO representative, Kath Collier
(503-808-2167) or me if you have any questions. We are looking forward to
seeing you next Friday. I hope you all have a nice Thanksgiving holiday.
Anne
