Late-Successional & Old Growth Monitoring
Related Information

The Late-Successional and Old Growth (LSOG) monitoring program characterizes the status and trend of older forests to answer the basic question:
- Is the Northwest Forest Plan (NWFP) maintaining or restoring late-successional and old growth forest ecosystems to desired conditions on federal lands in the Forest Plan area?
Our monitoring effort determines the current status of forest vegetation from classification of satellite imagery and analysis of inventory data. Remote sensing change detection and trend analysis provide information for tracking losses and gains in forest conditions from management activities, natural succession, and wildfire.
